What’s In My Six Pack – The Hop, Beacon

On our last day trip to Upstate New York, after spending the day in Pawling, we decided to take a detour to Beacon. We enjoyed some tasty beers at The Hop. Here are some of our favorites:

numb1Allagash Black –  Belgian Strong Dark Ale
Allagash Brewing Company Maine, United States
7.50% ABV

We bought a loaf of the Pumpkin Bread at McKinley & Doyle that went so great with this! Allagash Black is a Belgian style stout brewed with 2 Row barley, torrified wheat, oats, both roasted and chocolate malt and a generous portion of dark caramelized candi sugar. The silky mouth feel is a great balance to the roasted character, coffee and dark chocolate notes expressed throughout this beer. SOURCE: Allagash

elysian-the-immortalnumb4

Elysian The Immortal IPA
Elysian Brewing Company Seattle, Washington
6.3% ABV

Pour The Immortal, and as a big, frothy head fills the glass, an aroma pervades the nose with an abundance of piny, resinous, and grapefruit hop scents. Toffee-sweet malt flavors wash over the tongue immediately and sing through the inevitable waves of hops. The expected citrus, piney, and resinous hop notes are palatable though a bit muddled, making it difficult to distinguish each character in the swallow. Overall, this beer is large with both a big body and generous alcohol; it finishes dry and clean with just a touch of hops in the aftertaste, making it more drinkable than the usual hop bomb. milk-stout-nitro

numb5Milk Stout Nitro
Left Hand Brewing Company Colorado, United States
6.00% ABV

Taking America Back. Dark & delicious, America’s great milk stout will change your perception about what a stout can be. Pouring hard out of the bottle, Milk Stout Nitro cascades beautifully, building a tight, thick head like hard whipped cream. The aroma is of brown sugar and vanilla cream, with hints of roasted coffee. The pillowy head coats your upper lip and its creaminess entices your palate. Initial roasty, mocha flavors rise up, with slight hop & roast bitterness in the finish. The rest is pure bliss of milk chocolate fullness. SOURCE: LeftHandBrewing
